Genesis

Genesis is the beginning of all things. The big bang was the genesis of the universe, which contains the earth. For millions of years the earth was a mixture of fire, water and terrain. It was born of fire from the heart of the earth which was cooled by years of torrential rain which solidified the lava into shapes such as mountains and valleys. Some of these valleys were filled by the rain which created the oceans. Mating is another form of genesis. The creation of life. Mating follows the concept that when two independent bodies come together they create life. 1 + 1 = 3. Though not everything that is created is life. In the video the narrator pours milk into water, causing the milk to look like it was alive. The narrator went on to explain that it was not the creation of life but instead a simple form of organised chaos to imitate genesis.

Feldman’s Process for Appraising an Artwork

- Describe the subject matter

- Analyse the visual language

- Interpret the meaning of the work

Ing in from the background skimming the top of the water. In the middle ground is a particularly wide tree. Throughout this piece the water is reflective. The overall look of this painting is sinister and eerie. I believe the focal point of this image is the reflection of the moonlight on the water and of the large tree beside the reflection.

Reflection/evaluation

During this unit of work I encountered many difficulties. I know that I don’t have much patience and because of this I rush paintings and I don’t work to my full potential. Having Sally Harrison come to the school and talk to us about painting and her ‘dot style’ paintings and how to achieve the look was interesting and I also believe it helped me have more patience. During this unit of work I have discovered many artists at the APT6 held at GOMA and there style of art. I have also discovered that even though it may not look ‘pretty’ it is still art as it has an important meaning behind it.
